driven
on the voyage we made from north to south
i only stayed behind
the wheel once.
i refused to pull off
the last exit for thirty miles.
passed.
a tennessee blizzard
somewhere that seemed so much closer than it was
i would not let go of the stiff wheel
with every bit of our short history
and that bottomless future
freezing in the metal box
we dragged behind us.
you begged me to pull off.
finally. but i suddenly could not give up.
as i am driven to struggle.
